This post was inspired by another from my friend and Grove-sister, Tatterhood.
When I first started this blog back in 2013, I didn’t know who I was or what I wanted. I didn’t really know what I wanted this blog to be. It was originally set out to be a blog exploring my spiritual practise of Modern Druidry.
In fact, it’s full title was “A Wise Fool- A Blog of Druidry and Weirdry.” And was originally set out to document any bizarre happenings (dreams, ghostly encounters and the like) as well as what I learned and discovered in my exploration into Druidry.
For those who are new to my blog (Hello and welcome, btw!) Druidry is a nature based spiritual practise seeking the Divine within the world, and our relationship with it. In the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids (OBOD) I have passed the Bardic Grade (Seeking the spiritual self through self exploration and creativity) and am currently studying the Ovate Grade (spiritual connection in the natural world and examining my relationship with it).
For those who’ve followed my blog for any length of time (Hi and THANK YOU! xx) they will have seen this blog cover many subjects and change as the years went on.
My blog over the years has had different voices: snarky, humorous, ranting, posts about myths, the Modern Pagan celebrations and even about gender and my holidays (vacations) and acting endeavours. Looking back on it, it’s been one hell of a journey.
As I have grown, so has my blog, there are posts I think I could have written better and there are posts I think were more of explorations into that particular subject rather than a full study.
Right now, and as of last year, my blog has been mainly about finding inspirations in the natural world. I don’t go heavy with the Druidry theme as my practise is personal and I’m not in the habit of preaching. But Druidry is fundamentally my blog’s flavour: for what does the Druid seek? They seek Awen, connection with the Spirit or Divine Inspiration. And inspiration in the world around me is what I have felt the drive to share.
Realistically, my blog should be called A Wise Fool: A Blog about Druidry and Inspiration.
My writing voice has changed: No longer someone who’s trying to find who they are, or someone writing like they have something to prove. No longer someone trying to sound academic or ranty: What was the finding of my subject? what was the lesson learned of that encounter? My writing voice is more reflective than experiential now.

I love the idea of “weirdry.” 🙂 My writing voice has certainly changed over the years, and continues to do so (hopefully for the better). My blogging style has also changed, which is really obvious when you go back and look at my old blogs! Change is good, though, and I look forward to seeing how yours continues to change over time…
Thank you. It’s strange looking back at earlier posts isn’t it? You can see how you’ve matured over time. There are some posts I think “Wow, I must really thought I was being funny/clever/insert aim here” and coming across as something else. 😂

I’m quite glad I didn’t grow up with the internet! It’s must be so cringy to look back on posts you made as a kid or teenager. But it is interesting to go back and see how things have changed.

Right? We had diaries and notebooks for that kind of thing! I remember finding a diary I had when I was a teenager and laughed at the things I wrote about as these were THE most important things in the world! Lol.
But it is interesting to see what you have written and find what did or didn’t work. I also found it very educational on how hard I was on myself back then and a few years ago.

Ha- I’m not sure I can bring myself to go back and read my old diaries, but I would be interested in reading some of your insights (not the entries, unless you want to share, but maybe something on how you’ve changed) 🙂
My teenage diaries, I disposed of, but my dream diaries: where I started logging dreams, spells, magical workings and such I think I kept onto them. That’s a good idea for a post, thank you!
Now those sound like they would make for some fascinating posts!

I had no idea about Druidry and I had to look it up; reading this post and the posts which I will read soon, I think I’ll have some understanding. As of how it sounds fascinating-harmony and peace with every entity in Nature.
As far as changing patterns of writing is concerned, I think we all change and evolve and so does our writing-a reflection of our thought process. At the beginning of this year I deleted my blog and recreated a new one for I felt the articles didn’t seem quite true to me. I guess they were true when I wrote them but now, on a mission to be unforgivingly true to myself, I have begun again-my changing voice.
Hello and thanks for sharing your thoughts. I must admit, I’ve been tempted by the idea of starting over again. However, I’ve found rereading my past blogs were useful in finding the voices of who I used to be and so my blog is indeed evolving and growing. I often forget that new readers might not be familiar with my Spiritual path, so thank you for giving me an idea with how to deal with that. Peace to you!
I have to agree with you on that! The old blogposts are in a way a mirror to our older selves, teaching us, narrating to us our histories. Thankfully, I have saved the copies.
